The rural agriculture communities, particularly in the
Friday developing world are poor and underprivileged. These
communities continue to stay poor and underprivileged
Nov. 5 primarily due to the way they practice agriculture. The
inefficient, time-consuming, costly, and unhealthy techniques
12-1 pm they practice is to be blamed. The efforts to get these
communities out of poverty and empower with reputation
and social status very much depend on how far smart
agriculture can take root in these communities. A few pilot
projects have been launched in Sri Lanka to test and initiate
this transformation. Few major crops: paddy, tea, corn,
soybean, and mango have been selected. Solutions are
created using affordable technologies such as Drones, loT,
Robotics, RFID, Image processing, Machine learning, and
Cloud Computing.
Smart agriculture solutions need to be cost-effective. Often,
they need to be locally developed to be cost-effective and
sustainable to serve the purpose, community empowerment.
It’s also pivotal to build industry-community partnerships for
the long-term sustainable implementation of smart
agriculture in rural communities. Sometimes, new business
models would be required to encourage both industry and
community to work together for mutual benefit.
