Robotics has grabbed the key interest of the local and international community for a number of years with its innovative concepts. Ameliorating the high thinking power and the strategic problem solving & designing, E-club alongside the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering staged Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge (SLRC) each year for nine consecutive times. It enables the tech-savvy youth of the country to demonstrate their skills in an international standard robotics competition.
Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge has become one of the most awaited events in the technology calendar of technology enthusiasts of Sri Lanka and has gained interest from island-wide to the international community. The Competition is held in two categories namely the school category and the university category. The competition has been occurring annually since 2012. Each year the competition is held under a specific theme.
Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2024
The premier robotics competition in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge, has successfully marked another milestone with SLRC 2024. This year’s competition was held under the theme of Avengers. For the first time in history, SLRC 2024 opened its doors to the public, inviting all to witness the marvels of robotics.
From February 5th to February 26th, four school robotic workshops were held to inspire and enlighten the young minds of Sri Lanka. Then the elimination round for the school category was held on March 23 and for the university category on March 24. The winners from the elimination rounds confront their ultimate challenge at the grand finale on March 31st.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2022/23
“Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2022/23” organized by the Electronic Club of University of Moratuwa was held on the 24th, 25th & 26th of March 2023. The competition was sponsored by platinum partner Paraqum, gold partners Synergen and Synopsys, silver partner Azendtech, gift partners Acceler and Magicbit and event partner for the university competition Creative Software. The competition was organized under the theme of “Sherlock Holmes”.
Robotics workshops for both school students and university students were conducted in parallel with the Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge. The school workshop was conducted virtually over two months, consisting of 8 sessions. The advanced robotics workshop was a one-day online workshop on Robot Operating Systems held on 28th of January 2023.
School category OF SLRC 22/23 was held on the 24th of March 2023 at ENTC1, University of Moratuwa.
University category of SLRC 22/23 was held on 25th and 26th March 2023 at the Civil Auditorium, University of Moratuwa. Eight teams were selected for the final rounds of the competition after the successful completion of the first round.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2021
The ninth Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2021 is the first-ever virtual robotics competition organized by the Electronic Club of University of Moratuwa. The event is sponsored by Axiata Digital Labs, Synopsis Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and London Stock Exchange Group. The competition was organized under the theme of “Starwars”.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2019
“Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2019” organized by the Electronic Club of University of Moratuwa was held on 19th, 20th & 21st October 2019. A special award for the “Best Robot Design” for both school and university categories was given for the first time in addition to the main cash prizes. The competition was organized under the theme of “Game of Thrones”.
University category of Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2019 was successfully held on 19th and 20th October 2019 at the Civil Auditorium, University of Moratuwa. Eight teams were selected for the final rounds of the competition.

University category competition of “Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2017” was successfully held on 12th January 2018 with the participation of over 200 students.
The school category competition of “Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2017” was successfully held on 13th January 2018 with the participation of over 300 students around the country.
Team Karnos and Team NEMO who were in the SLRC 2017 competition have been qualified to participate in IARC robot competition which was held as a part of the Techkriti technical festival organized by the student community of IIT Kanpur university which was held from 15th-18th March 2018.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2016
Sri Lanka Robotics Challenge 2016 organized by the E-Club of University of Moratuwa was concluded successfully on the 11th and 12th of November, 2016 under the theme of “Avengers”. The school category was open for any school student from all over Sri Lanka. The University category was open for all innovative Sri Lankan undergraduates and this is the Sri Lankan Country Final for the “International Robotics Challenge (IRC)”. The winners of the competition have been qualified to compete at the finals of Techfest 2016-17 at IIT, Bombay, India.

The School Category Competition of the Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2015 was held on 27th of February 2016 and the University Category Competition of the Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2015 was held on 28th November ’15 at Civil Auditorium,University of Moratuwa.
Competition was a thrilling experience for the competitors as universities from all over the country competed for the Championship title.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2014
In 2014 the SLRC was held for the third time on 11th and the 12th of December. By 2014 SLRC has already become an iconic event of the both University of Moratuwa and also in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. As customary, the event was held in the university premises under three categories.
These categories were organized with three themes in mind.
- Shadow Wars-School Category Competition
- Desert Siege-Industry Category
- Island Thunder-University Challenge
School Category Competition was conducted with the theme of Shadow wars on the 11th of December from 8.00 am onwards.
Desert Siege was the theme for Industry Category and it was held on 11th of December from 2.30pm onwards.
University Category got the theme Island Thunder and it was held on 12th of December.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2013
With the immense popularity and the success of the first-ever SLRC, the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering decided to continue the tradition and organize the event for the second time in 2013. It was held on the 12th and 13th of December at the university premises with a set of young and enthusiastic innovators and tech fans. The most significant thing about the event is the awarding of approximately Rs.350 000 worth of cash prizes.
The event had three main parts, namely the university category, school category, and the open category. The three categories had three different themes in which they had to solve a challenging task.

- Endeavour (open category)
All the winners getting qualified to participate at the Techfest- International Robotics Challenge (IRC) 2014 is the best sign of what is in store for the SLRC participants.

Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge 2012
In 2012, the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication (ENTC) Engineering decided to start a new project named Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge (SLRC). The University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka’s leading technological higher education institute, has been monumental in introducing cutting-edge technology to the local communities. Alongside the Department of ENTC, UOM decided to organize this SLRC, which was the Sri Lankan leg of the robot competition by Techfest.
The E-Club of University of Moratuwa presents the “Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge”, a national robot competition, which enables the tech-savvy youth of the country to demonstrate their skills in an international standard robotics competition. “Transformers“, The university category competition of The Sri Lankan Robotics Challenge, held on 14th December 2012 was an immense success which showcased the extreme talents of the Sri Lankan University population, in the field of Robotics.
