UAV Research Lab, University of Moratuwa

Drones are disrupting many application domains including surveying, agriculture, and package delivery. Development of drones and customising them to specific applications is therefore a need of the day. Hence, the UAV Research Lab. This is the place where drone/UAV technologies are conceptualized, designed, tested, and deployed in Sri Lanka.

We have academis, engineers, technicians, RC pilots, and industry partners to work together. Equpment such as Laser cutter, 3D printer, thermal forming machine, 3D scanning, CNC milling, CNC Lathe are available for prototyping drones using various materials inclusing, metal, foam, CF, and glass fibre.

The drones built initially were – Bee, Twin, RAVAN, Hawk, and Hex. Recent added ones are – Enduro, Enduro X2, Medic, Penta, VisionX, and Hornet. Our funding agencies are National Research Council, Ministry of Education (WorldBank-AHEAD), UNDP, and Pristine Solutions. And, the lab has given birth to three startups- Future Drones (Pvt.) Ltd., Pristine Innovations (Pvt) Ltd., and AGX One (Pvt) Ltd.
