SUMMARY:Seminar on Empowering the Rural Communities with Smart Agriculture by Prof. Rohan Munasinghe
DESCRIPTION:Zoom link for the seminar:  https://cornell.zoom.us/j/98701606426?pwd=WmE2S1FRYW43SUdKeXpTVUMxKzFXdz09 \nThe rural agriculture communities\, particularly in the\nFriday developing world are poor and underprivileged. These\ncommunities continue to stay poor and underprivileged\nNov. 5 primarily due to the way they practice agriculture. The\ninefficient\, time-consuming\, costly\, and unhealthy techniques\n12-1 pm they practice is to be blamed. The efforts to get these\ncommunities out of poverty and empower with reputation\nand social status very much depend on how far smart\nagriculture can take root in these communities. A few pilot\nprojects have been launched in Sri Lanka to test and initiate\nthis transformation. Few major crops: paddy\, tea\, corn\,\nsoybean\, and mango have been selected. Solutions are\ncreated using affordable technologies such as Drones\, loT\,\nRobotics\, RFID\, Image processing\, Machine learning\, and\nCloud Computing.\nSmart agriculture solutions need to be cost-effective. Often\,\nthey need to be locally developed to be cost-effective and\nsustainable to serve the purpose\, community empowerment.\nIt’s also pivotal to build industry-community partnerships for\nthe long-term sustainable implementation of smart\nagriculture in rural communities. Sometimes\, new business\nmodels would be required to encourage both industry and\ncommunity to work together for mutual benefit.
